GMB ball joint
GMB's ball joints have moderate friction torque and rotational movement, enabling smooth operation of the vehicle. In addition, it responds appropriately to irregular changes in the road surface, supporting stable vehicle performance and a secure ride.
In order to realize these, GMB uses a resin sheet (POM: ACETAL) with excellent friction resistance and special synthetic grease between the ball of the ball joint to minimize friction, and a dust cover. We are working to extend the life of ball joints by using muddy water permeation prevention grease inside the (dustproof cover).
At Thai GMB, we carry out static tests, destructive tests, and durability tests required during development to ensure product reliability.
Ride quality and safety are guaranteed by thorough quality control, in parallel with appropriate heat treatment and thorough acceptance inspection of special steel, and voluntary inspection and patrol inspection in each manufacturing process.
Ball joint function
The ball joint consists of a housing attached to the control arm and a ball stud attached to the wheel, and a resin sheet is assembled between the ball stud and the housing.
A plug or cap is inserted to prevent internal grease leakage and the housing is crimped, and a rubber dust cover filled with grease is attached to the opposite side of this caulking to prevent the ingress of mud and water. ..
Ball joint structure
In the classification of ball joints, there are press-fit type, bolt type, rivet type, and integrated type with the arm depending on the mounting method to the control arm, and the mounting method to the wheel includes the upper fixed type and the pinch bolt fixed type.
In addition, there are metal type and resin type depending on the material of the ball sheet inside, and the metal type comes with a grease nipple on the outside for continuous oil supply, but the resin type is between the ball and the shaft at the time of manufacture. There is no need for refueling because specially formulated grease is injected into the nipple, so there is no need for grease nipples.
In recent years, GMB has mainly adopted the resin type.
